Reasons Why
You Should Employ Web Redirection: The Basics of a Common
Practice

Web redirection has become a very
common practice on the Internet. Before, this technique
was merely used to make a long, unsightly URL look more
presentable and easier to input. However, with the advent
of affiliate marketing and other similar online
practices, web redirection has become more than
essential. However, while web redirection (in essence) is
very basic, online beginners may not know what it is all
about-or why people use it. To be sure, people do know
the existence of web redirection (known also as web
forwarding and link cloaking, among others) but they do
not know the core of its purpose. Here are some very
basic reasons why you should use web
redirection:
-
A respectable name.
So you have a website that is
supported by a free web space provider, like
Blogger or Wordpress. There’s nothing wrong
with this, even if the URL of your website
will sport an address with the name of the
space provider. However, this is only true if
you have a personal website like a blog. If
your site will be used for more professional
purposes, you will need a domain name. Domain
names are served for those who bought web
space. However, you can get a domain name
through web redirection. And with a domain
name thanks to web redirection, your site can
attract more visitors.
-
Marketing tool.
Redirection can be used to
attract visitors in more ways than one.
Redirection can be used so your redirected
URL name will appear on search engines,
increasing your visibility online.
Redirection can also be used to lure visitors
by getting address that do not exist but are
often inputted (for instance, using
misspellings of popular websites as a
redirected URL names).
-
Organization.
Redirection is employed when a
site is changing domains-and, ultimately,
domain names. For instance, from one.com, you
will move to two.com. Redirection can be used
to send visitors to your new site as not to
lose visitors during your move. Redirection
is also a great tactic for merging sites, so
visitors will be directed to the new site
while visitors get used to the site’s new
URL.
-
Domain cloaking.
Redirection is a very common
tactic used by affiliate marketers. However,
more than redirection, marketers use domain
masking or link cloaking. The two are
essentially the same (they provide an
alternative URL for a website)-but with one
crucial difference. With wed redirection, the
URL simply redirects the visit to the site;
the original URL remains visible. With domain
cloaking, the URL is hidden even when the
visit goes to the site using the redirected
URL.
How does this make a difference?
Essentially, both translate to an increase in visits.
People are wary of affiliate link (the links on
the affiliate site that takes the visitor to the site of
the seller or the online store) since they feel the site
is insincere and false. With redirection, visitors click
the URL thinking it is not an affiliate site, but they
will see the site’s real URL once he gets to the
partner’s page. With cloaking or masking, the real URL
remains hidden. Just the same, depending on the type of
compensation you will get as an affiliate, redirection
remains to be a very valuable tool in affiliate
marketing.
